The Strand Theater

& The Rueff

1127 Market Street
San Francisco, CA 94103

A dynamic and intimate performance complex filled with the creative energy of the most exciting artists of the Bay Area and beyond, The Strand had its much-anticipated opening in spring 2015.

Located directly across from Civic Center’s lively UN Plaza, The Strand boasts a 283-seat theater, a 120-seat event and performance space, and a welcoming lobby and cafe that is open to city residents seeking a new destination in the Central Market neighborhood.

The Strand allows A.C.T. the flexibility to stage an expanded range of productions each season, including specially commissioned new work, cabaret and theater performances by A.C.T.’s M.F.A. Program and Young Conservatory students, educational workshops with school partners, event rentals for community groups, and celebrations for the A.C.T. community.

Most significantly, The Strand allows A.C.T. to deepen its impact on the city and community through the transformative power of theater.

The Strand Theater is located steps away from the Civic Center BART station.

The Rueff

Located a level above The Strand’s Toni Rembe Theater, the Rueff is a 120-seat, 1,500-square-foot space that offers soaring views of City Hall, flexible seating, and a dynamic layout—with the versatility to accommodate performances, education programs, readings, and workshops. Lofty ceilings, a wall of multi-light wooden sash windows, and a prep kitchen and actor's lounge adjacent to the space make the Rueff well equipped for a range of special events.

Parking

We recommend booking convenient and affordable parking in advance through SpotHero, the nation's leading parking reservations app.

To reserve your parking spot, visit the American Conservatory Theater SpotHero Parking Page and book a spot with rates up to 50% off drive-up.

To park at the Trinity Place Parking Garage at a discounted rate, you will need to pre-purchase a parking pass for $15 from our Box Office. This option is only available for mainstage productions. Please call 415.749.2228 to purchase. Donors who give at the Director ($2,500+) level and above receive complementary parking passes to our full season. Trinity Place Parking Garage will no longer honor ticket stubs for parking discounts. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

Located below the Trinity Place condominiums, the Trinity Place Parking Garage has two entrances: 33 8th Street (between Market and Mission streets) for patrons arriving from the north, and 1188 Mission Street (between 7th and 8th streets) for those arriving from the south.

We also recommend additional parking options near the Strand:
Civic Center Garage (355 McAllister St; 7 min walk to the Strand)
Fifth & Mission Parking Garage
(899 Mission St; 11 min walk to the Strand)

Lost and Found

To report a lost item, simply call or email our box office.

If you can provide the following information, it can help us find your things:

  • Knowing your seat number – the most frequent location of a lost item is under your seat. If you don’t have your seat number the box office can help you find it.
  • A good description – For more common items, like “a black umbrella” or “a pair of glasses” it helps to describe details such as “with a leather strap handle” or “crimson red frames”.
  • Let us know if you may have had it with you in another area of the theater, such as one of our bars or restrooms.

We’re very happy to assist: 415.749.2228 or tickets@act-sf.org.

We acknowledge the land

As part of our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, we are in the process of building a meaningful, continual relationship with the local Indigenous theater community. As part of this we begin by honoring the lands upon which we do our work. We would be proud to offer deep gratitude to the tribal band of Ramaytush Ohlone peoples and their lands that cover Northern California and down the Pacific coastline. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish in the 1700s, the Ramaytush Ohlone numbered approximately 1500 persons, and made their life on the sacred lands. Due to the invasion and the establishment of Franciscan Missions throughout California, only a few families survived and still remain. Those descendants make up the membership of the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone (ARO) today. We honor the Ohlone as a people, their resilience, and all they have done and continue to do in maintaining sacred and ancestral lands, ceremony, and communities to this day.
