Before this matinee performance, get hands-on with theater with the artists who make it happen at this interactive workshop.
Internationally-acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and composer David Coulter (most recently at A.C.T. with The Black Rider) has created a haunting and beautiful score that captures the emotional undercurrent of the characters in Khaled Hosseini’s powerful story. During every performance of A Thousand Splendid Suns at The Geary Theater, Coulter becomes a one-man live orchestra, playing an eclectic assortment of unusual instruments, including a musical saw, sheet steel, bells, octave violin, rusty springs, thumb pianos, jaw harps, pitch pipes, and more. This workshop provides a rare opportunity to hear from Coulter as he introduces some of his unconventional musical arsenal and shares the inspirations and expressions of the soundscape he has created for A.C.T.’s production.
This workshop takes place in The Garret on the 5th floor of A.C.T.'s Geary Theater. The doors to The Geary Theater will open at 12:30 p.m.; participants will be escorted upstairs to The Garret for the workshop, which will begin promptly at 12:45 p.m. The matinee performance of A Thousand Splendid Suns begins at 2 p.m.
