“Lepage and his team have created an absolutely riveting theater piece that astounds the senses, with gravity-defying performances by Normand and Robertson. Cocteau would be proud!
KALW Public Radio

In a rotating, three-dimensional cube hovering above the Geary stage, visionary director Robert Lepage presents a brilliant collision of digital wizardry, acrobatic choreography, and traditional stagecraft. Through the lives of two brilliant but troubled icons—Parisian filmmaker Jean Cocteau and American jazz legend Miles Davis—Needles and Opium presents a series of hypnotic vignettes exploring the complex relationship between art, addiction, and heartache. As the great cube revolves, their tales interweave in a swirl of video projections and cool jazz, and Lepage fuses magical stagecraft and astonishing visual storytelling into a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
