Are you new to Studio A.C.T. and not sure which course is right for you?
Check out our recommendations below!
I’m a beginner!
- Try Introduction to Acting to learn the basics of acting and theater-making skills. This course is also great for building confidence and learning to become a better collaborator in a variety of contexts.
- Try Introduction to Improv or Improv I to rediscover your sense of play, develop your imagination, learn to react creatively to a variety of challenges, and to better connect with people from all walks of life.
I’ve done some theater and/or taken classes but it’s been awhile!
- Try Act II if you’re comfortable with some memorization and interested in returning to scene work.
- Try Voice and Diction or the Alexander Technique to get more comfortable in your body, and to learn to be heard and understood!
I’ve done quite a bit of theater and am looking for a challenge!
- Try one of our electives! These classes aren’t always offered every session so jump at the opportunity to take these and add new skills to your resume. Step outside of your comfort zone and try Introduction to Acting for the Camera, Introduction to Musical Theater Performance, Introduction to Mask, or a movement class!
- Try Audition Prep! It’s a great course in which to find new material that also offers students a chance to revisit or refine existing audition material. This course is the perfect place for aspiring and working actors to make actionable choices to help them achieve their artistic and professional goals.
Q: I'm a new student. What do I need to do to register?
A: Follow this link and be sure to complete the New Student Questionnaire when prompted at the end of the registration process. All new students are asked to answer these questions to ensure that they have registered for a class that is appropriate for their level of experience.
Q: Is there an age requirement?
A: Studio A.C.T. students must be 19 years of age or older. If you are coming to Studio A.C.T. after attending the Young Conservatory, you are still considered a new student and will need to fill out a new student questionnaire for Studio A.C.T. when prompted at the end of the registration process.
Q: Do I need to have acting or stage experience to register for a Studio A.C.T. class?
A: No. We offer introductory classes in addition to our more advanced classes. Please look both at session listings and course descriptions to see if the class is a good fit for you.
Q: I've sent in a new student questionnaire, but Studio A.C.T. is not enrolling/in session right now. Do I have to fill out another one for the next session?
A: No. We will keep your questionnaire on file and will contact you when we have scheduled our next set of new student interviews.
Q: I'm a returning student. Do I need to fill out a new student questionnaire?
A: No. All returning students can register for their classes online.
Q: I'm a returning student. Can I show up at registration on the first day of classes to enroll?
A: No. All students, even returning students, must register before the first day of classes.
Q: I've registered online for a class. Now what?
A: Once you have registered for a class online, Studio A.C.T. will send you a confirmation that you are enrolled in your class. Just because you have paid for a class does not mean that you are automatically confirmed.
Q: I've paid for a class, but it's full. Is there a waitlist?
A: If you try to register for a class and are told that it is full, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to that waitlist. If you are on the waitlist, do not show up to class unless you are contacted by the Conservatory Associate that a spot is available for you and you have paid your tuition.
Q: Where are classes held?
A: Classes are most often held in the studios at 30 Grant Avenue in San Francisco. This is also where the Conservatory offices are located. If your class will take place at a different location, the office will communicate this to you prior to your first class.
Q: What is the withdrawal and refund policy?
A: If there is not sufficient enrollment, the course will be canceled, and all tuition paid refunded in full. Requests for withdrawal from the course by the student must be received in the office in written form no later than 24 hours before the scheduled start of the second class. No requests for withdrawal will be accepted after this deadline. The request MUST be made in writing (by email or fax). Requests in person or by telephone will not be accepted. If faxed, the request must be sent to 415.834.3210. If emailed, the request must be sent to email@example.com. The school's receipt of the request will be confirmed by phone or email. If withdrawing before the scheduled start of the first class, the student will be financially responsible for the prorated cost of the first scheduled class unless the request is properly received no later than 24 hours before the scheduled start of the first class. If the above procedure is followed, the student will be eligible for a refund and will receive the amount of course tuition paid, minus (1) all nonrefundable fees; (2) the prorated cost of any scheduled class held before the acceptance of the written request; (3) the cost of adjusting any course discount; and (3) any outstanding library or returned check fees. Allow ten (10) working days to process. If the student is dismissed by the school at least 24 hours before the scheduled start of the second class, the student will be eligible for a refund according to the above refund schedule. The student is not eligible for a refund if dismissed after 24 hours before the scheduled start of the second class. The student is not eligible for a refund if expelled.
Q: What tuition discounts do you offer?
A: Current A.C.T. subscribers receive a 20% reduction of tuition for one course during the season. This offer is not available online. Please call 415.439.2441 to receive either discount.
Q: May I visit the school for a tour?
A: Due to the complex scheduling of our studios, we are unable to offer tours of our facilities. If you are in the area, a conservatory associate will be happy to speak with you about our actor training programs. Please call 415.439.2441 for more information.
Q: Is financial aid available for Studio A.C.T.?
A: Studio A.C.T. does not offer financial aid. However, we do offer a “50% now, 50% first day of class” option. You will see this option during your online registration.
