Welcome to A Christmas Carol

Auditions for the 2023 production of A Christmas Carol have closed. Information for the 2024 production auditions will be available in Spring 2024. Thank you for your interest.

Hello Young Conservatory Actor!

It’s that time of year again, and the chance to be on the A.C.T. mainstage in the holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, has arrived! As you know, the annual production of A Christmas Carol at A.C.T. is an exceptional artistic experience for a young actor, with a cast comprising students ages 8 to 13 from the Young Conservatory alongside veteran professional actors from throughout the Bay. This year’s production will be directed by A.C.T.’s Director of the Conservatory Peter J. Kuo, who is eager to bring the story to life through a San Francisco lens. With the production running in the holiday season at the historic 1000-seat Toni Rembe Theater, this is truly a young actor’s once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

If you are interested in being a part of this year’s production of A Christmas Carol, please read all the documents on the Carol website carefully:

After reading all materials and agreeing to the commitment, please follow the instructions to fill out the Audition Application Form, including uploading a current photo and resume, if you have one. It is essential that you are available for ALL of the rehearsals and performances—without exception. Because of the size of the company and the relatively short and complex rehearsal period, we will not be able to work around any conflicts. If you are cast, we will enroll you in our Professional Performance Seminar (offered tuition-free to those students cast), which covers the YC student actor’s experience and additional mentorship and workshop opportunities with A.C.T. artistic staff and actors.

The audition process will begin with preliminary auditions on Tuesday, August 29 (for which you will be required to sing a short song of your choice and present a monologue of your choice). Callback auditions will be held on Thursday, August 31 (for which actors will read from the Carol script and sing). Please note that in alignment with Covid safety policies for A.C.T. mainstage productions, all actors including YC actors must provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19 at their audition to be eligible to be cast. The audition experience provides essential growth for the young actor, and we look forward to meeting this year’s group of interested performers!

After reviewing the FAQ and above documents, if you still have questions, please email casting@act-sf.org. Please note: while we aim to respond in a timely manner, it may take us extra time due to the high volume of emails.

Warmly,

Jill MacLean
